1. Knowledge Base
  2. Fundamentals of Ion Exchange

Type 1 vs. Type 2 Anion Resins

Type 1 versus type 2 anion resin.

TYPE 1

Example — ResinTech SBG1 or SBG1P

Advantages

— Type 1 resins are more thermally stable than Type 2 resins

— Type 1 resins produce better water quality than Type 2 resins

— Type 1 resins are less expensive than Type 2 resins

— Type 1 resins can produce lower TOC than Type 2 resins

When To Use

— When lowest TOC is required

— When water is warm or hot

— When lowest silica is required

— Single use applications

TYPE 2

Example – ResinTech SBG2

Advantages

— Type 2 resins have slightly higher total capacity than Type 1 resins

— Type 2 resins are easier to regenerate than Type 1 resins (especially from the chloride form)

— Type 2 resins give off less odor than Type 1 resins

When To Use

— Waters with a high percentage chloride

— Waters that are not over 75ºF average

— Most dealkalizer and nitrate removal applications

— Where highest possible operating capacity is required
